Protein: Why you need it

Protein is vital to good health. Body Balance Protein powder is one of the most important supplement recommendations I make to clients. I'm pleased to see that there is a growing emphasis on reducing carbohydrate consumption. However, we still are bombarded by messages about the importance of low-fat diets ‑ a style of eating that ignores the importance of protein.

When I counsel clients who come to me with health concerns, I take a diet history and calculate the percent of protein, carbohydrate and fat each is consuming. Often, clients have been following the formerly popular high-carbohydrate, low-fat recommendations. Their diets are protein-deficient. Consider:

·        Protein is the most plentiful substance in the body after water.

·        Protein is a key element of our bones, nerves and tissues.

·        Protein is the major source of building and repair for every cell in the body: muscles, nerves, bones, tissue, skin, hair, nails and internal organs, including the heart and brain.

·        Protein makes up hormones such as the thyroid hormone and insulin that control a variety of bodily functions: growth, sexual development and rate of metabolism

·        Protein helps prevent blood and tissue from becoming too acid or too alkaline, (measured by pH). When pH is out of balance, disease can take hold and flourish.

·        Protein combined with minerals helps regulate the body’s water balance.

·        Proteins make up enzymes critical to basic life functions (digestion, metabolism, and detoxification) and antibodies that fight viruses, bacteria and other disease agents.

·        Proteins in the blood are used to transport enzymes, vitamins, minerals, fats, glucose and hormones to all cells of the body.

 

Protein: Energy and weight

Protein can replace carbohydrates and fat as a source of energy, but carbohydrates and fat alone cannot supply building and repair material for cells.

Protein is not stored in the body; it must be consumed daily. When a diet is deficient in protein, the body will find a way to supply protein to vital organs by robbing protein first from muscle tissue and then from less-vital organs.

I was so pleased to find your 100% Egg White Protein at the store today. I have been using the 100% egg protein but I love the idea of organic even better. (By the way, I get it at the Woodman's in Carpentersville, IL which is not named on your website among the list of stores carrying your products. There is a huge population in this area so I suspect you may capture some business of web-browsers out this way if it was listed.)
 
I would like to know if there is an expiration date on the product (I could not find one) and whether it should be refrigerated after opening?
 
Thank you for creating an important part of a healthy diet. I use it in my Magic Bullet blender and am able to get 2-3 servings of veg's and 2-3 servings of fruit in one shake, along with the protein. Not bad for one meal! I also add ground chia seed for good measure.

Protein, calcium and phytochemicals

Excess carbohydrate consumption may exhaust the body's glucose-regulating system, resulting in blood sugar that is either too high or too low. Many blood-sugar problems go undiagnosed. When blood sugar is out of balance, hormones are out of balance; when hormones are out of balance; bodily functions are out of balance.

In addition, when blood-sugar levels are too high, calcium in the system becomes toxic and can be deposited as plaque in soft tissues and in arteries.

But when blood-sugar levels are too low, calcium becomes deficient, and the body takes calcium from the bones and teeth to compensate.

Premature aging and degeneration can occur when cells are robbed of their supply of protein through day-to-day pressures.

Protein supplements and flavorings
